Fantasy Shoes

Riding boots, Turkey: Part of the British Museum collection, these look a bit small for me, so I’m not planning to steal them. Aren’t they magnificent? The catalogue tragically says almost nothing about them other than offering the date (1800-1850) but clearly the woman who wore them had exquisite taste. And she’d also have appreciated the design of the boots, because the metal heel attachments are practical as well as beautiful.

I imagine a slightly-overcast day, with no mud to ruin the colours in the design, with an outfit that picked up the green and red accents, galloping off to meet her lover. What I love most of all are the black stripes on the slim edge of the sole.

Maybe they were a gift, but who from?
